GROUP OF OIL MAJORS PLEDGES TRANSPARENCY: Eight major oil companies are pledging more detailed reporting on their emissions reductions, following pressure from investors seeking to hold them accountable for the long-term climate targets they are setting.
As part of broader “energy transition” principles released today, the oil majors promised to begin disclosing the risks their companies face from climate change and carbon policy consistent with recommendations from the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures, the global benchmark for such disclosures.

President-elect Joe Biden will name Michael Regan, North Carolina s environment secretary and a former EPA official, to lead the Environmental Protection Agency, according to a source familiar with the decision who spoke about private conversations on the basis of anonymity.
If confirmed by the Senate, Regan would be the first African American man to run the EPA. He stands to inherit an agency that has been ground zero as the Trump administration rolled back climate and pollution regulations.
Less than a month after denying Appalachian Power Co.âs request to raise its base rates, state regulators will reconsider their decision.
The State Corporation Commission on Tuesday suspended its final order â which turned down Appalachianâs bid for an increase that would have cost an average residential customer an extra $10 a month â until further notice.
In a brief order without explanation, the SCC granted petitions to reconsider filed by two parties on opposite sides: Appalachian, which says it needs more revenue to cover the costs of providing electricity to about 500,000 customers in Western Virginia, and the state attorney generalâs office, which has called the accounting practices behind the request âunconscionable.â

President-elect Joe Biden plans to nominate Brenda Mallory to lead the Council on Environmental Quality, a White House role that will be critical to the administration s efforts to address environmental justice and climate change, according to two sources.
Mallory, who served as CEQ general counsel under President Obama, brings more than three decades of working on environmental issues to the job. She s currently the director of regulatory policy at the Southern Environmental Law Center.
