Britford Lane. Picture: Google Maps MORE than 30 homes experienced a power cut for five hours this morning after a fault. At 05.14am, a fault developed on a section of an underground cable network in the Britford Lane area of Salisbury, and this fault caused the power to go off at 32 nearby properties. Scottish & Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN), who are in charge of the cable network say as soon as it was aware of the fault, its engineers went to the local substation to investigate and begin their work to get the power back on for our customers. All supplies were restored by 10.05 this morning.

Work to install the new subsea cable was completed in November 2020.
After a fault developed on a new £30million subsea electrical cable one of two which connects Orkney to the Scottish mainland the old cable which it replaced is set to be temporarily reconnected and a section of overhead lines will be reinstated in Rackwick in the interim.
There is no impact to customer power supplies as a result of the fault on the Pentland Firth East cable but contingency measures are in place including the limited operation of the backup power station in Kirkwall where required.

27 January 2021: UK developer Eelpower partners up with infrastructure investor SUSI Partners
UK energy storage and renewables developer Eelpower has formed a joint venture (JV) with Switzerland-headquartered sustainable infrastructure investor SUSI Partners to construct and operate a pipeline of new-build battery storage assets in Britain.
The first of these will be a 50MW project at Dunsinane, near Dundee, Scotland, which is set to start construction in February. Additionally, SUSI purchased 40MW of the company’s existing storage assets as part of the JV, with Eelpower to continue to manage the assets.

Householders across the north of Scotland are being urged stay warm and save money this winter by making use of an energy advice service which is described as the first of its kind.
A partnership between Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) Distribution and Citizens Advice Scotland (CAS) sees SSEN-funded energy advisers offering expert tips, and they have put more than £225,000 back into the community since the tie-up began in July 2019.

The technology group Wärtsilä will provide grid balancing services and reserve power to Scotland’s Shetland Islands with the supply of its advanced energy storage system. The system is being supplied to Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) Distribution, which belongs to the regulated businesses of SSE plc. The system will deliver 8 MW/6 MWh of power when operational. Wärtsilä will support the installation with a 10-year service agreement, which includes maintenance for the software and hardware system components, as well as 24/7 remote support and management. The order was booked by Wärtsilä in December.
The energy storage system will be installed at the Lerwick Power Station, operated by SSEN in Lerwick, the Islands’ capital. The power station is the main generator for the local grid and the Wärtsilä energy storage solution will provide spinning reserve capacity, while also facilitating further integration of wind power into the system.
