McKinney murder trial: Trial hears of efforts to revive mum of two

A murder trial heard on Thursday of the efforts to revive mum of two Lu Na McKinney whose lifeless body was dragged from the waters of Lower Lough Erne four years ago. Dungannon Crown Court, where her 44-year-old husband Stephen is on trial, heard from medics who battled for almost an hour to save the 35-year-old drowning victim in the early hours of April 13, 2017. Mr. McKinney was also variously described to the jury of eight men and four women by doctors and paramedics as appearing tearful, distressed, agitated, upset, and sad and who continually asked about her condition. The couple were on a boating holiday with their two children when Mrs. McKinney, according to her husband, fell into the water while checking the ropes mooring their hire-cruiser at the west jetty on Devenish Island.

No Covid-19 deaths recorded in Northern Ireland THURSDAY’S daily Covid-19 update from the Department of Health saw two new cases of Coronavirus recorded in the Fermanagh and Omagh District Council area, bringing the total to 5,957 cases. There were no deaths locally, and no further deaths in Northern Ireland. In the Council area, the death toll stands at 85 people, while across Northern Ireland, the death toll has reached 2,146 people. Positive cases across Northern Ireland now stand at 120,702 people after 102 cases were recorded by the Department of Health yesterday. Encouragingly, the seven-day positive case rate in the Council area is falling, and now stands at 30.8 per 100,000 people.

One man cut from vehicle and taken to hospital following crash

One man had to be cut out of a vehicle and was taken to hospital following a road traffic collision in the Tempo area on Wednesday (May 5). The collision, which involved two vehicles, occurred on the Tonyglaskan Road, Tempo on Wednesday morning at around 10am. Emergency services attended the incident including two Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS) crews and one Rapid Response Paramedic; two Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) appliances from Enniskillen and one from Fintona and the PSNI. A spokesman for the NIFRS stated: Firefighters were called to a two vehicle road traffic collision. One vehicle had one male occupant who was out of his vehicle when firefighters arrived. The other vehicle was occupied by one male and one female.

At a Western Trust media briefing, Geraldine McKay, Director of Acute Hospitals at the Trust, said numbers had risen because children are back outside playing again and more vehicles are on the roads.
