Butte felon sentenced to prison in firearms crime

GREAT FALLS â A Butte man having been convicted of a felony was sentenced Thursday to 38 months in prison and three years of supervised release for illegally possessing a gun, Acting U.S. Attorney Leif Johnson said.
Joseph Alfred Edward Lytell Torres, 30, pleaded guilty on Oct. 1, 2020 to prohibited person in possession of a firearm.
Chief U.S. District Judge Brian M. Morris presided. Torres was detained.
In court documents filed by the prosecution, officers with Butte-Silver Bow Law Enforcement responded on May 12, 2020, to an area behind a Butte residence where a caller informed officers she had seen a male driving a motorcycle with a gun in his hand and heard a âpop, pop.â Officers found a vehicle with a flat tire in the area and two spent 9mm shell casings on the ground. COVID-19 is also to blame; the virus has slowed production in multiple trades due to smaller workforces in various factories.
Empty or near-empty shelves where ammunition once was can be found in mom-and-pop gun stores statewide as well as big-box sporting goods stores.
Man gets fed time for violent carjacking

A 34-year-old Beaumont man has been sentenced to federal prison for carjacking and firearms violations in the Eastern District of Texas announced Acting U.S. Attorney Nicholas J. Ganjei this week.
Thaddiaus Joseph Thomas pleaded guilty on August 12, 2020 to discharging a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence and carjacking and was sentenced to 198 months in federal prison today by U.S. District Judge Marcia A. Crone.
“Everyone deserves to live in a safe community, free from the threat of violent crime,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Ganjei. “The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Texas, along with our federal and local law enforcement partners, will do whatever it takes to stem the tide of violent gun crime on our streets.”
