Authorities urged to review PMC Act

Authorities urged to review PMC Act July 13, 2021 PESHAWAR: Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) has rejected the Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) Act and demanded its review by the authorities concerned. This was stated by the PMA Secretary-General Dr Qaiser Sajjad during a press conference. He said the government had passed the bill in a hurry and examination of MBBS doctors for the National License Certificate (NLC) is also a sign of distrust in educational institutions. He said they would not only protest against the Act but would also file a petition in the court. Dr Qaiser Sajjad, while criticising the bill, said the bill of the Pakistan Medical Commission was passed within minutes from the assembly.

The protesters carried placards and banners inscribed with slogans against the PMC. “We have not registered for this examination and will continue our protest till the decision is reversed,” said a protester. The young doctors deplored that despite their refusal to register for the examination, the PMC went ahead with it. They said the commission was imposing decisions on young doctors. They said despite the protests of the opposition parties in parliament, the government had approved the PMC’s policy leading to its implementation. The protesting doctors added that they had no objection to the new exam system, which the government claims had been developed on the pattern of the United States’, but before its implementation, the provision of the facilities available in the US should be ensured in Pakistan.
