(WMBF) - April is National Child Abuse Awareness Month. Despite the month being almost over, one organization plans to continue awareness throughout the year. “We’re not a motorcycle club, but we are in the motorcycle world,” said Vaper, president of the Bikers Against Child Abuse Midland Chapter. “We’re in the biker world.” For Vaper, that biker world revolves around empowering children. He calls himself Vaper, not just because it sounds cool, but to protect the identity of the countless children he’s worked with.

Look Ahead, Pittsfield: Spring break here for students, but city officials have plenty on their schedule

PITTSFIELD — The week begins with a lull in activity as the Bay State marks Patriot’s Day, but revs up quickly as officials knock down city business in advance budget hearings on the fast approach. On Tuesday, the Police Advisory and Review Board meets to handle regular case reviews, and discuss new policy review language with Police Chief Michael Wynn, not long after his appointment to the statewide commission tasked with developing a professional police certification system for officers. And on the recreation front, opposition is growing against the mountain bike skills course the Parks Commission supports building in Springside Park, which is being spearheaded by Alison McGee, the city School Committee member and New England Mountain Bike Association Berkshire chapter president.

Building community, building hope

HANNIBAL — Employees of Douglass Community Services will display blue pinwheels of hope in recognition of April being National Child Abuse Awareness Month at noon Monday, April 12. The public is invited to join the ceremony at 711 Grand Ave. in Hannibal. This month and throughout the year, DCS encourages all individuals and organizations to play a role in making Northeast Missouri a better place for children and families. By ensuring that parents have the knowledge, skills and resources they need to care for their children, communities can help prevent child abuse and neglect by making meaningful connections with children, youth and families in local communities.
