Declaration of a unilateral ceasefire by the Paresh Barua-led United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) has triggered a glimmer of hope for permanent peace in Assam. Barua made the declaration in response to an appeal made by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, immediately after assuming office, to the outfit to come forward for peace talks. Dr Sarma has welcomed the unilateral ceasefire declaration by ULFA (I) commander-in-chief as a good sign and has sent a clear signal that the government is ready for talks. Positive responses from both sides should lay the ground for the preparation of a more structured and formal response. The opportunity must be seized to pave the way for opening dialogue. GUWAHATI: The Boro Diaspora Forum (BDF) congratulated Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chief Minister of Assam, and his cabinet on forming a new Government in Assam.
Further, in a letter the BDF highlighted few concerns and urged the government to implement, Strengthening of Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) administration in accordance with the Sixth Schedule of the Indian Constitution.
Further, protection of Land Rights of Boro and other indigenous tribal people of the state by strict implementation of provisions of tribal belts and block guideline i.e. as laid down under Chapter X of the Assam Land and Revenue Regulation Act,1886. Also, settlement of thousands of Boro people and other tribals residing in the erstwhile Reserve Forests in the State.

Guwahati : The Gauhati High Court has rejected the bail plea of the 5 accused in connection with the October 30th, 2008 Assam serial bomb blasts. Assam militant leader and the Chief of National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) Ranjan Daimary, amongst the other accused, was the mastermind behind the serial bomb blasts that claimed over a hundred lives and injured over four hundred people. The bomb blasts took place in Guwahati, Kokrajhar, Bongaigaon, and Barpeta Road, totally shaking up the conscience of Assam to its very core.
