LAHS News:
Isaac Ortega, a senior at Los Alamos High School (LAHS), is one of 14 New Mexico students named as winners of National Merit $2,500 Scholarships.
In addition, nine LAHS seniors are among 1,000 distinguished students receiving corporate-sponsored National Merit Scholarship awards financed by about 140 corporations, company foundations and other business organizations.
Filippo Delzanno, Karin Ebey, Mirabell Gerts, Shena Han, Anthony Lestone, Griffin Light, Aidan McCleskey, Konstantin Nelson and Audrey Nolen were selected as winners of the National Merit Battelle Scholarship.

Today, National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC®) announced this year’s National Merit $2500 Scholarship winners. The 2,500 Merit Scholar designees were chosen from a talent pool of some 16,000 outstanding Finalists in the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program.

National Merit $2500 Scholarship winners are the Finalists in each state judged to have the strongest combination of accomplishments, skills, and potential for success in rigorous college studies. The number of winners named in each state is proportional to the state’s percentage of the nation’s graduating high school seniors.
26 Montgomery County Students Earn $2,500 National Merit Scholarships
26 Montgomery County seniors have earned National Merit Scholarships in the second round of awards from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC).
Awardees were selected from more than 16,000 students nationwide and were among 47 awardees chosen in Maryland. The awards provide recipients with a one-time award of $2,500 for college tuition.
This group of awardees were selected by a committee of college admissions officers and high school counselors, who appraised a substantial amount of information submitted by both the students and their high schools, including the academic record, scores from the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®), contributions and leadership in school and community activities, an essay written by the student, and a recommendation written by a high school official.
