ACC probe finds TB Hospital former, current deputy directors involved in irregularities

A steel almirah typically costs about Tk 23,000 but authorities of the 250-bed TB Hospital bought 100 such items at Tk 96,000 each, according to an Anti-Corruption Commission enquiry.
The authorities also purchased 19 essential pieces of medical equipment for the hospital at exaggerated prices in 2018.
In the enquiry, the details of which were revealed yesterday, the ACC found that the hospital s former deputy director and current deputy director misappropriated around Tk 4.46 crore of public money in collaboration with suppliers.

Two people diagnosed with Indian variant of Covid-19 in city
Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Dedicated Corona Hospital Director Brigadier General AKM Nasir said two people were diagnosed with Indian variant of Covid-19.
He came up with this information while talking to journalist on Friday.
“We have found Indian variant of coronavirus from the samples of two presons those who have come from India. The samples were sent to National Institute of Diseases of the Chest and Hospital (NIDCH) as per instructions. We are keeping a close watch on those coming from India,” the director said.
“There is a risk of being infected with Covid-19 as the time is very challenging. We all need to be careful. And we have to follow hygiene rules. The situation could be severe if the Indian type of virus spreads in the country,” he added.
