School Board approves National Board teaching supplement

The School Board unanimously approved on April 12 to implement a $5,000 annual supplement for teachers who become certified with the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. Linda Foster, human resources supervisor, said a teacher who is certified with the National Board has inquired about teaching in the Franklin County School System. However, she said the most the system would pay is $46,207, including a 2.5 percent salary increase the board is considering. Foster said the School System could be losing out to other systems that pay bonuses for national certification. The National Board is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization founded in 1987 that develops and maintains advanced standards for educators and offers a national, voluntary assessment — National Board Certification, based on NBPTS standards.
