HANOI: Leading economists have an optimistic growth outlook for Vietnam in 2021 despite the Covid-19 pandemic.
According to the Ministry of Planning and Investment, key indexes show the economy is bouncing back well and showing an optimistic trend.
In the first four months of this year, total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue topped 1.69 quadrillion Vietnemese dong (more than US$73bil or RM300bil), up 10% year-on-year, while exports were estimated at US$103.9bil (RM427bil), rising 28.3%.
Assoc Prof Dinh Trong Thinh, a senior economist at the Academy of Finance, said nearly 44,200 new enterprises were established during the four months, registering 627.7 trillion Vietnemese dong and more than 340,000 employees. The figures respectively grew 17.5%, 41%, and 7.8% from a year earlier.

Ms. Tran Thi Thu Hang, CEO of Sunshine Group, has become the youngest leader in Vietnam’s banking industry after being appointed chairwoman of KienLongBank.
In recent years, many businesspeople who were born in the 1980s and even 1990s have joined the management boards of local banks.
Hang, born in 1985, was appointed chairperson of KienLongBank to replace Mr. Le Hong Phuong at the bank’s recent meeting of the Board of Directors for the 2018-2022 term. Hang is the youngest female banking president.

The National Election Council has announced the official list of candidates for the 15th National Assembly election.
According to National Assembly Office Chairman and National Assembly Secretary General Bui Van Cuong, there are 868 people running for election of 500 deputies of the 15th National Assembly.
Regarding the structure of candidates, Cuong said there are 393 female candidates, accounting for 45.28%, an increase of 6.31% compared to the previous term.
There are 185 candidates who are ethnic, accounting for 21.31%, down 2.14% from the previous term.

HÀ NỘI The National Assembly is increasing innovation, improving operational efficiency and raising the quality and professionalism of the delegates, members of the NA have agreed.
Hoàng Văn Cường, member of the National Assembly Delegation from Hà Nội and Member of the Finance-Budget Committee of the National Assembly, Vice Rector of National Economics University, said the consultation work to select NA candidates is crucial and it is necessary to select delegates who are capable and qualified.
“The responsibilities of National Assembly deputies are not only listening to the voice of voters but also know how to convey those opinions to contribute to important issues of the country; and to hold law enforcement agencies accountable, Cường said.
