CLEVELAND, Ohio Christmas Eve will go from ho-hum winter weather to frigid conditions in a flash as a cold front is expected to change rain to snow Thursday afternoon.
Meteorologist Mike Griffin of the National Weather Service in Cleveland said temperatures will start in the mid-40s during the early morning, but once midday arrives, temperatures will plummet and potentially reach the mid-20s by late afternoon. The change to snow is forecast to happen around lunchtime.

Central Ohio could wake up to a winter wonderland on Christmas Day, according to the latest forecast.
The National Weather Service says in an advisory that rain on Thursday will change to snow later in the day, with snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches expected by Friday morning.
Slick spots will develop on roadways and sidewalks due to the snow accumulation and refreezing, and in some parts northeastern Ohio, driving conditions could be hazardous as up to a foot or more of snow is possible.
To the north and east of Columbus, at least four inches are expected, and in northeastern Ohio s snow belt, the National Weather Service in Cleveland is predicting snow showers all day and night Thursday across the Greater Akron area. The forecast shows 5-6 inches falling across the region.

A winter storm that hit the Mahoning Valley Wednesday afternoon left roads and highways slippery with numerous calls of accidents and traffic delays.
A Trumbull County 911 spokesman said they received numerous calls from throughout the area about vehicles off the sides of roads, especially off state Route 11 in the Girard and Liberty areas.
Girard police reported a semi truck hit a guardrail along Interstate 80 eastbound, east of U.S. Route 422. That section of the road was shut down for about an hour until the scene was cleared. There were no injuries reported.
Several communities also have issued snow bans to clear the snowfall from the roadws. Bans were issued for Bazetta until 9 a.m. today, Girard until noon Friday, Howland until 7 p.m. today, Hubbard until noon today, and Niles until 5 p.m. today in Trumbull County, and Youngstown until 9 p.m. today in Mahoning County.

CLEVELAND, Ohio The National Weather Service in Cleveland has issued a winter weather advisory and a hazardous weather outlook for parts of Northeast Ohio as widespread light snowfall descends upon the region.
The snowy conditions could impact the Wednesday evening commute, but according to the weather service, it shouldn’t be nearly as bad as the snow storm on Nov. 30, which resulted in about two feet of snow in some parts of Greater Cleveland.
