As spring rolls in, Arkansans need to take steps to prepare for severe weather events.
This week marks the National Weather Service s Severe Weather Awareness Week with the goal of informing people about the threats severe weather pose as well as where to go for information on severe weather events.
The National Weather Service s efforts focus on flooding, lightning, tornados, severe thunderstorms, watches and warnings and general storm reports.
“Flash flooding is probably the most common threat, said Dennis Cavanaugh, a National Weather Service warning coordination meteorologist.

In the event of flash floods, stay off the roads and avoid driving through any standing water.

(Douglas County, NE) Douglas County has announced the schedule for the testing of their tornado sirens.
The Douglas County Emergency Management Agency will begin testing the Outdoor Warning Siren System for 2021 with a Visual Test of individual sirens on February 25th and 26th. Over those two days the public may hear periodic soundings of short duration. It should be noted that, if needed, the visual test may be cancelled or postponed due to inclement weather.
The first Routine Monthly Test for the 2021 season will be at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, March 3. Routine monthly tests consist of a single sounding at 11:00 AM on the first Wednesday of the month. Tests will be conducted on April 7, May 5, June 2, July 7, August 4, September 1 and October 6.
