Ottawa public school board looks to create Indigenous trustee position

  OTTAWA Ottawa s public school board wants permission from the Ontario government to create an Indigenous trustee position at the board. The Ottawa Carleton District School Board will vote on a motion Tuesday from Trustee Wendy Hough to write a letter to the Minister of Education to allow the board to have an Indigenous trustee. The OCDSB committee of the whole approved the proposal earlier this month. Hough says the board s goal is to develop a culture of caring within Ottawa s largest school board. We have committed to building a system capacity in equity and inclusive practice to support education, engagement, and reconciliation with historically marginalized groups, said Hough during an OCDSB committee of the whole meeting on Feb. 9.

MLHU reports 10 new COVID-19 cases and no deaths for region

  LONDON, ONT The Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) is reporting 10 new COVID-19 cases Sunday and no new deaths in the region. The region now has a cumulative total of 6,093 cases, 5,804 resolved and 181 deaths, leaving 108 active cases. Outbreaks are ongoing at six seniors facilities, as well as at the Elgin-Middlesex Detention Centre. There are also active outbreaks at one child care facility and three elementary schools in the region, after a new outbreak was declared at St. Anne s Catholic School on Thursday. Meanwhile the Thames Valley District School Board (TVDSB) says it is preparing to implement voluntary testing of asymptomatic students and staff across its schools, as per the provincial mandate.
