Yarmouth voters approve wastewater funding, school budget override

Daniel Horgan will hold onto his seat on the Yarmouth Board of Selectmen after earning the most votes of any candidate in the race.  Horgan, who earned 37% of votes cast in Tuesday’s election, will be joined on the board by Peter Q. Smith, who narrowly edged out Curtis Sears for the second open seat. Yarmouth voters also approved a key piece of the town’s plan to fund a wastewater overhaul that has been in the works for years. More than 76% of voters approved the addition of a .78% surcharge on the annual property tax assessed on real property starting July 1.

As towns wade into hybrid meetings, some officials ask, can we keep Zoom?

Ahead of their 6 p.m. meeting, all five members of the Yarmouth Board of Selectmen were seated in what were once their usual chairs.  Though they were divided by sheets of plexiglass, it was the first time members of the town’s legislative body were together for a regular meeting since the pandemic began more than a year ago. Still absent from the basement meeting room in Town Hall were members of the public, who were waiting to weigh in via Zoom. Before the cameras started rolling, the board members listened as JP Ludwig, a technical consultant working with multiple Cape towns to support virtual meetings, explained how the hybrid meeting would unfold.
