Burlington, Ia- The Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office has announced a Des Moines County Jail inmate has been charged for possession of contraband in the jail.
According to a news release, on Tuesday a deputy with the Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the Des Moines County Correctional Center for an inmate having possession of contraband.
Correctional Officers advised they had located a bolt and a pointed weapon in an inmate’s cell. The inmate was identified as 48 year old Raymond Lee Edwards Jr. of Davenport, Ia.
After investigating the incident, Edwards was charged with possessing contraband in a correctional facility.

Burlington, Ia- Authorities have announced the arrest of a Burlington man on drug possession charges.
According to a news release, on Friday, February 5th the Southeast Iowa Narcotics Task Force, Burlington Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division, and the Burlington Police Department’s Problem Oriented Policing Unit (POP) executed a search warrant on a residence in the 900 block. of North 8th Street.
The search warrant was being executed in reference to a subject who was trafficking large quantities of narcotics in the greater Burlington area.
47-year-old Milton Cleon Davis of Burlington (above) was arrested on charges of Possession with Intent to Deliver Heroin, Possession with Intent to Deliver Marijuana, Two counts of Delivery of a Controlled Substance, Two counts of Drug Tax Stamp Violation, Possession of a Firearm by a Felon.
Burlington man arrested for suspected heroin and marijuana
A Burlington man was arrested after authorities found multiple drugs on a search warrant.
Milton Cleon Davis, 47, was arrested Friday when members of the Southeast Iowa Narcotics Task Force and Burlington Police Department s Problem Oriented Policing Unit (POP) found drugs at a home in the 900 block of North Eighth Street, according to a media release issued by Burlington Police Lt. Wayne Thomson, Criminal Investigations Division.
The warrant was executed in reference to a subject who was trafficking large quantities of narcotics in the Burlington area.
Davis is charged with possession of heroin with intent to deliver, possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, two counts of delivery of heroin, two counts of a drug tax stamp violation, and possession of a firearm by a felon.
A Burlington man convicted of killing an LGBTQ teen in 2016 has lost his appeal.
Jaron Purham, 28, was found guilty of first-degree murder in a 2018 trial and sentenced to life imprisonment. Purham and another man, Jorge Sanders-Galvez, were accused of killing 16-year-old Kedarie Johnson, who was gender-fluid and often dressed and presented as female.
Prosecutors said at trial that Purham and Sanders-Galvez picked up Johnson intending to have sex, and upon learning Johnson was biologically male, killed him. Johnson s body was found in a Burlington alley with a plastic bag forced down his throat, another over his head, and two bullet wounds to his chest.
