Burlington, Ia- The Des Moines County Sheriff's Office has announced the arrests of two people following a traffic stop. On Monday, June 7, 2021, at approximately 6:57 p.m. a deputy with the Des Moines County Sheriff's Office performed a traffic stop on a vehicle at US Highway 61 and Summer St. for illegal window tint. The deputy identified the driver as 41-year-old Amanda Jo Thompson, and the passenger as 38-year-old Mark Anthony Smith both of Quincy, IL. During the stop, the deputy smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and asked the passenger to exit the vehicle. The passenger was detained after the deputy located marijuana on his person. While doing so, the vehicle fled from the traffic stop. At approximately 7:05 p.m. deputies were notified of a motor vehicle accident at 12222 50th St. and the vehicle description matched the vehicle that had fled from the traffic stop a few minutes earlier. Burlington, Ia- Authorities are seeking information regarding a weekend shooting.
According to a police report, at about 1:02 AM Saturday, June 5th, the West Burlington Police Department was dispatched to Great River Medical Center for two adult males who had arrived with gunshot wounds.
It was determined the shooting took place in the 12800 block of West Avenue. Deputies responded to the scene of the shooting and were assisted by the Burlington Police Department.

Burlington, Ia- The Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of a New London woman for driving while under the influence.
According to a news release, on Sunday, May 30th, 2021, at about 9:40 PM, a Des Moines County Deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle at Des Moines County Highway 34 and South Prairie Grove Road for a speeding violation. The driver was also suspected of driving while intoxicated.
The deputy contacted the driver, 33-year-old Kaity Grace Bench of New London, and requested she perform a field sobriety test. Bench refused all standard sobriety tests, as well as a breathalyzer test, and was arrested for operating while intoxicated.
