PLAINFIELD - After being arrested near the U.S.-Mexico border in Texas, a city man has been returned to New Jersey to face charges he murdered a city man on Christmas Eve.
Oscar E. Rodriguez, 24, is charged with first-degree murder and second-degree desecration of human remains in connection with the death of David Chacon, 42, on West Front Street, said acting Union County Prosecutor Lyndsay V. Ruotolo.
Shortly after 10 a.m. Christmas Eve, Plainfield police responded to a call reporting charred human remains found in an outdoor area near the 800 block of West Front Street, according to Union County Assistant Prosecutor Peter Benza, who is prosecuting the case.

Police arrest suspect in connection with attempted abduction in Summit

SUMMIT - Officials said Saturday that swift action on the part of Summit police officers resulted in the thwarting of an attempted abduction over the weekend.
According to acting Union County Prosecutor Lyndsay V. Ruotolo and Summit Police Chief Andrew Bartolotti, Shervon James, 33, of the Vauxhall section of Union Township has been charged with first-degree kidnapping.
The incident occurred shortly after 4 p.m. Saturday, when the 19-year-old victim, a resident of Summit, was walking on Fernwood Road near Whittredge Road. According to the preliminary investigation, she was approached by an individual driving a white four-door sedan. The individual was later identified as James.

The co-owner of a Union County Jamaican restaurant is believed to have killed the mother of his children and her sister inside of the establishment before turning the gun on himself, authorities announced Wednesday.
The three individuals were identified as Akanni A. Marin, 45, Karen A. Lemaitre, the mother of his children, and her sister, Wanita A. Joffer, acting Union County Prosecutor Lyndsay V. Ruotolo said.
Union Township police officers approached a vehicle they noticed parked in the back of an Enterprise Rent-A-Car lot on Morris Avenue, where they found the body of 45-year-old Martin early Monday morning, Ruotolo said.
