JK Reports 66 New Covid-19 Cases, Tally Reaches 124785

SRINAGAR: The Government on Friday informed that 66 new positive cases of novel Corona virus (COVID-19), 15 from Jammu division and 51 from Kashmir division, have been reported today, thus taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 124785. Also 01 COVID-19 death has been reported from Kashmir Division. Moreover, 63 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals including 17 from Jammu Division and 46 from Kashmir Division. According to the daily Media Bulletin on novel Corona virus (Covid-19), out of 124785 positive cases, 654 are Active Positive, 122187 have recovered and 1944 have died; 722 in Jammu division and 1222 in Kashmir division. The Bulletin further said that out of 4643543 test results available, 4518758 samples have been tested as negative till 5thFebruary, 2021.

4G mobile internet services being restored in entire J&K after 18 months

4939 Jammu, February 5 High-speed mobile internet was on Friday restored in the entire union territory of Jammu and Kashmir, exactly one and a half years after it was snapped in August 2019 when the Centre had abrogated the special status of the erstwhile state. Principal Secretary of the Home Department Shaleen Kabra issued a notification and directed the Inspectors General of Kashmir and Jammu to “closely monitor the impact of lifting of restrictions”. The Raj Bhavan’s official twitter handle of LG Manoj Sinha thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for “acceding to our request and restoring 4G services in the entire Jammu and Kashmir UT. The move will fulfil the aspirations of the people, especially the youth”.

Credit: Aditi Agrawal After nearly one-and-a-half years, 4G Internet services will be resumed across the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, the administration’s official spokesperson Rohit Kansal announced on Twitter. 4G Internet in most of the Union territory has been cut since August 4, 2019, a day before the Central government abrogated Article 370, which had granted it special status, and subsequently created the Union territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. It was only at the end of January 2020, that fixed line services were allowed to resume operation, while mobile data was restored to 2G speeds. Access was limited to a whitelist of 301 websites, and access to social media websites was enabled only in March 2020. Since then, two districts Udhampur and Ganderbal have seen restoration of 4G Internet on a trial basis.
