Assembly polls: TMC surges ahead in West Bengal, clear edge for DMK in Tamil Nadu

In Kerala, the ruling LDF is leading in 88 of the 140 assembly constituencies while the opposition Congress-headed UDF was ahead in 50 segments. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan was leading by 3,351 votes in his home turf against his nearest rival C Raghunathan of the Congress, according to Election Commission figures.

Counting will also be held in four Lok Sabha seats and 13 assembly seats across 13 states where bypolls were held.
The ruling Trinamool Congress was set to retain power in the keenly watched state of West Bengal while the saffron party-led NDA was leading in Assam and the opposition DMK in Tamil Nadu, according to latest trends available on Sunday for assembly polls.
Tamil Nadu election results: In Tamil Nadu, the DMK has crossed the half-way mark in early leads, ahead of the ruling AIADMK, which has an alliance with the BJP.

New Delhi [India], May 2 (ANI): In view of a surge in COVID-19 infections, the Election Commission (EC) on Sunday wrote to Chief Secretaries of all states and Union Territories and heads of political parties to prohibit the victory celebrations where the counting of votes is underway and demanded strict compliance of directions.
In a letter to Chief Secretaries, the poll body asked to urgently prohibit the public celebrations being carried out in the context of today s counting of votes. The Commission has viewed it very seriously and again directed that all necessary actions must be taken to ensure the strict compliance of its directions wherein all such activities have already been prohibited in view of the pandemic, the EC s letter said.
