Last week, the agency filed a second-degree felonious assault charge against 18-year-old Shawn D. Jones Jr., of Columbus, after they say he admitted to shooting a girl in the back of her head on Thursday.
A criminal complaint filed in Licking County Common Pleas Court last week said Pataskala police were called to the 4700 block of Summit Road in Pataskala for a reported shooting on Thursday. Upon arrival, officers said they learned a 16-year-old girl was shot in the back of her head and had been taken to Mount Carmel East Hospital by Jones.
After making contact with the defendant at the hospital, the agency said Jones admitted to shooting the victim in the back of her head and tossing the firearm out the window on the way to the hospital.

Ohio Supreme Court hears Moundbuilders case
COLUMBUS, Ohio Oral arguments were held Tuesday in a case involving the Ohio History Connection and Moundbuilders Country Club in Newark. The history organization is looking to acquire the lease on the property, so Octagon Earthworks can be open to the public on a daily basis.
The Licking County Common Pleas Court and Ohio Fifth District Court of Appeals both sided with the Ohio History Connection in ruling the organization had the authority to acquire the lease on the property through eminent domain. The country club then appealed to the Ohio Supreme Court.
The Ohio History Connection is seeking to have the Hopewell Ceremonial Earthworks added to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization’s World Heritage List. The U.S. Department of Interior previously stated it would not submit the application unless the public has access to Octagon Earthworks. The country club provides public access to the entire site f
