Man, two 17-year-olds charged with murder in N.J. shooting

Less than a week after a Newark man was gunned down in the city, authorities on Friday said two 17-year-old boys and an adult were arrested and charged in the slaying.
Jaqway McCall, 18, a city resident, and the juveniles face murder, conspiracy to commit murder and weapons charges in the Monday shooting death of Romel Bottex, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens II and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose announced in a joint statement.
Police arrested McCall without incident Thursday, according to officials. He was being held at the Essex County jail ahead of a detention hearing.

A Bergen County man was charged with stealing nearly $100,000 from the Essex County emergency rescue squad that he presided over, authorities said.
Jonathan Arredondo stole more than $75,000 from various Nutley Emergency and Rescue Squad accounts and ran up more than $30,000 in personal finances, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, said Friday.
The 30-year-old River Vale resident withdrew cash of approximately $5,000 increments and then deposited the money into his own personal bank accounts 19 times between May 2019 and August 2020, Stephens said.
Arredondo served as president of the squad during that time, while the position of treasurer was vacant, Stephens said.

A 45-year-old woman was found dead in her home on Thursday and authorities arrested her husband in the killing, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens II announced Friday.
Jose Lasso Guaman attacked his wife, Maria Lasso, in their Polk Street home in the Ironbound section of Newark, authorities said. The prosecutor’s office did not indicate how she was killed.

A Newark man is facing a first-degree murder charge after attacking and killing his 45-year-old wife in their Newark home, authorities said.
Maria Lasso was attacked by Jose Lasso Guaman at their Polk Street home on Jan. 14, and pronounced dead at the scene around 7:45 a.m., Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose said.
Guaman has been charged with first degree murder, possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
He was arrested Jan. 14 and remanded to the Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark.
