Today’s Star Spangled Salute honors homeless Army Veteran Freddie Finkley. Freddie, who has been homeless for 5 years, was standing at an intersection the other day when a crash happened right in front of him. He saw that flames were coming into the car through the dash so he quickly acted and pulled 34-year-old Eric Lopez to safety. Lopez was released from the hospital and will be okay. Freddie’s girlfriend is not surprised by his bravery saying, “In general he helps everyone.”. Thank you Freddie for your bravery and THANK YOU for your service.

Today’s Star Spangled Salute honors Marine Veteran Guillermo Sandoval. A quiet Saturday night soon became chaotic when an police chase ended in a crash in his front yard. After the crash an officer was stabbed by the suspect, that’s when Guillermo said his Marine training kicked in and he jumped in to help. As the officer tried to take down the suspect after the crash, the officer was stabbed. Guillermo was able to put a tourniquet on the officers wounds who was rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery. Thank you Guillermo for your quick thinking and THANK YOU for your service.
Today’s Star Spangled Salute honors a Navy Veteran and the Firefighters who helped him in his time of need. The Veteran who was diagnosed with Covid-19 and Pneumonia was unable to chop wood to keep the fire in his house lit to heat his home, so firefighters stepped in. They spent 4 hours, with 2 log splitters making sure the Veteran had plenty of wood for the season. The firefighters were recognized by the local American Legion for their efforts. To those firefighters we say thank you and THANK YOU to that Veteran for his service.

Today’s Star Spangled Salute honors Retired Lt. Col. Rich Juarez. After graduating from KU with his aerospace engineering degree, Rich went into officer training, and that was the beginning an important and memorable military career. His service had him watching and working on planes such as the U2 Spy Plane. He taught at the Air Force Academy, helped build laser guided bombs, disposed of old missiles, and worked on the Intermediate Nuclear Forces Treaty as it was being negotiated. Rich served for over two decades and there was always one mission, “Make sure that the United States is not surprised by technology developments taking place.” Thank you Rich for your service.

Today’s Star Spangled Salute honors Marine Corps Veterans Patrick Moltrup and Jason Lilley. The two started a Youtube channel called “Savage Actual“. It’s full of everything from humor and movie reviews to video game reviews and mentorship of those who want to follow in their Special Forces footsteps. The channel has over 80,000 subscribers and invites you to “Join us, share a beer and a laugh. Don’t take us or the world too seriously.” With the YouTube channel they want to show the world that even though being part of that platoon was a monumental part of their life, it was not the “apex.” Patrick and Jason, congrats on the Youtube success and THANK YOU for your service.
