Today’s Star Spangled Salute honors Air Force Veteran Xavier Bruce. Xavier served in Kandahar, Afghanistan and when he returned home, he and his wife Alisa founded the non-profit “Uplift In-Powerment”. When Xavier was deployed and was dealing with rocket attacks, he didn’t feel comfortable talking with anyone. Together they support Veterans, active duty service members and their families transition from military to civilian life. While they help all, there is a focus specifically on black Veterans because as Xavier explains, there are added stressors involved being a minority in the military and once that person gets out. He wants to help Black Veterans learn about self-leadership. Thank you for helping other Veterans Xavier, and THANK YOU for your service.

Today’s Star Spangled Salute honors 99-year old Pearl Harbor Veteran and one of America’s newest citizens Heinz Bachman. Heinz, German born, became a citizen back in 1934 when his father became naturalized but he lacked the proof recently when he went to renew his drivers license so he could keep driving his 1998 Buick Skylark. So, he went through the process of citizenship and was recently sworn in. A Pearl Harbor survivor, Heinz said he never really had any close calls that day but the Japanese flew so close he could see the faces of the pilots from the ground. Congratulations on your citizenship Heinz and THANK YOU for your service.
