Posted By: JJ Hayes February 2, 2021 @ 4:04 am Blogs, JJ Hayes Show Page     Today’s Star Spangled Salute honors Vietnam Veteran Jesus Segovia.  Jesus spent 13-months in Vietnam.  It was there a booby trap one night on a special mission nearly claimed his life.  His return to the states from Vietnam was no different than it was for so many.  Protests, name calling, being spat on.  For years civilian life lacked direction until he attended a meeting of a Veterans coalition in his town, and in no time he became the Vice Commander of the coalition.  It was then his life changed and he’s been giving back ever since.  Everything from the naming of a Vietnam Veterans Memorial Park to raising money for scholarships.  Thank you Jesus for your generosity, and THANK YOU for your service.

Star Spangled Salute: A Triple Amputee Veteran Finds Healing in Hunting

Posted By: JJ Hayes January 28, 2021 @ 4:02 am Blogs, JJ Hayes Show Page     Today’s Star Spangled Salute honors Marine Veteran Brian Meyer.  Brian served in the Marines for 12 years and one day, while attempting to defuse an improvised bomb, it detonated.  Brian lost most of his right leg, right hand and three fingers.  Brian said, it’s not such a big deal, adding he was only in the hospital for 30 days.  Still, beyond the physical scars, there are mental scars that needed to heal.  Late in life, those scars are slowly healing thanks in part to hunting and the organization Wounded Warriors Outdoor.  The non-profit, not to be confused with the Wounded Warrior Project was founded in 2008 and provides opportunities for wounded veterans to go hunting and fishing, all expenses paid. Meyer’s first outing with the group was a 2013 black bear hunt in Canada, he’s been hooked ever since.  Thank yo

Star Spangled Salute: An Army Veteran Known as Dan Dan The Driving Man

Posted By: JJ Hayes January 27, 2021 @ 3:45 am Blogs, JJ Hayes Show Page     Today’s Star Spangled Salute honors Army Veteran Daniel Howard, known to many in his area as “Dan Dan the Driving Man”.  From 1984 to 1988 Dan was a rappel master with the 7th Infantry 3rd Brigade.  In the Army he served in an air assault Blackhawk unit.  Dan says the Army taught him many things about brotherhood and service and back in his civilian life he used it to be a helper.  Over the last 20+ years Dan had been connecting with and offering free rides to Veterans and the homeless to get them where they need to go.  In his electric vehicle he contracts for a RideShare company in his area but he has donated over 200,000 miles to help those in need.  Recently, he received $500 from a local law firm as a small thank you for what he does.  Thank you Dan for being a giver and THANK YOU  for your service.
