Poet’s Seat Poetry Contest accepting entries
Published: 1/26/2021 2:29:30 PM
One of the more remarkable events of Franklin County is the Annual Poet’s Seat Poetry Contest, now accepting poems and celebrating its 30th year. Over those years, you and your neighbors have written thousands of poems and sent them into the contest, from both Franklin County adults and young people. I’m sure this poetry contest isn’t unique to our county, but I’m also pretty confident it is unusual, especially its longevity.
This year is even more special: It’s the 200th anniversary of Frederick Goddard Tuckerman. He’s the original poet of Poet’s Seat, named after his custom of climbing the ridge overlooking Greenfield, and writing some very fine, still moving poems.
