Inconsiderate drivers block disabled patients at hospital by parking on dropped kerbs

Cars parked in front of the drop curb at GWH s entrance Thoughtless drivers are blocking disabled people from getting into the hospital building by parking in front dropped kerbs. The drop off area at the Great Western Hospital leads directly onto the entrance courtyard, but often fills up quickly with people picking up, or dropping others off. And disabled campaigners say it leads to cars being parked in front of the access ramps. Paula Wheeler, from Covingham has difficulty walking and relies on a wheelchair to get around. She said: “My husband and I struggled last week because a driver parked there and refused to move. Getting the wheelchair across the ramp area is a nightmare because people just have no consideration and park right across the area.”

A spokeswoman for GWH apologised to patients at Abbey Meads and Moredon, saying: “There are currently widespread challenges in primary care, which have been made all the more difficult due to the impact of Covid-19. “The second wave of coronavirus, which we experienced at the start of this year, was particularly demanding on staff and it should be noted that the survey responses were collated during this period. “We know that this is not an excuse though and want to apologise to our patients for their experiences with our practices. “We took on these practices at the end of 2019 following significant failings under the previous provider.
