The Day - Casinos rolling out red carpets for prospective employees - News from southeastern Connecticut

They’re paying extra attention to prospective employees, too. In a bid to hire more than 300 full- and part-time workers, Foxwoods Resort Casino is offering starting pay above minimum wage and double time for overtime. After hosting a  hiring event earlier this month, Mohegan Sun has scheduled three more, including one Wednesday, as it seeks to fill more than 100 openings. “With more adults becoming vaccinated and COVID-19 restrictions being relaxed across Connecticut, Foxwoods Resort Casino is excited to hire new team members to support resort demand,” the Mashantucket Pequot-owned casino announced in a news release. Foxwoods has brought back more than 3,000 employees since shutting down for 11 weeks following the pandemic outbreak in March 2020 and said it is looking to hire an additional 300-plus workers to fill openings in a variety of departments, including hotel operations, food-and-beverage and security.

Connecticut Politics Week in Review: Democrats facing potential budget showdown with Gov Ned Lamont over tax hikes for the rich

Budget talks are underway as lawmakers and Gov. Ned Lamont attempt to reach a deal before the General Assembly adjourns June 9, but the sides remain in disagreement about taxes. Democratic lawmakers favor raising taxes on the wealthy to fund tax credits for the poor and middle-class and other initiatives. Lamont has resisted tax hikes, saying the state is in good financial standing and tax increases send the wrong message.

Foxwoods lifts masking rules for vaccinated visitors

Foxwoods Resort Casino has dropped its mask requirements for fully vaccinated guests. The policy change was announced Friday by Foxwoods President and CEO Jason Guyot and went into effect Saturday. Guests who have not been vaccinated are being asked to continue wearing masks or face coverings, Guyot said, and Foxwoods staff will be required to do the same, regardless of their vaccination status. “We ask everyone to remain considerate of others around them and trust guests to take appropriate measures based on their vaccine status,” the statement read, likely signalling that Foxwoods will not require guests to show proof of vaccination to go maskless.
