March 27th, 2020, 74-year-old Martin Postma of Strathroy fell ill after a month-long trip to Portugal, later passing away and becoming the  first COVID-19 death in the region. December 23rd, 2020, the first COVID vaccine administered in the region went to Karen Dann, an administrator at Komoka’s Country Terrace long-term care home. January 5th, 2021, the health unit reported 161 new COVID cases, the largest single-day spike of the pandemic to date.
