NATCHITOCHES PARISH, La. (KSLA) - The Natchitoches Parish Fire District 4 family is mourning the loss of Firefighter BJ Miller.
Miller, 22, was the son of Fire Chief Bryan Miller, and a member of the department since he was 18-years-old.
“BJ was an inspiration to all who knew him, he had been diagnosed as a teenager with heart failure and was required to wear an LVAD heart assist device at all times, yet he remained a dedicated member of the department, attending and supporting as many department functions and trainings as possible,” reads a Facebook post.

NATCHITOCHES PARISH, La. (KSLA) - An 18-wheeler and its cargo were destroyed in an early morning fire on Monday, May 3.
Deputies with the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office and firefighters with Natchitoches Parish Fire District #6 were called to an 18-wheeler fire on Interstate 49 northbound near mile marker 143, according to NPSO.
That’s north of the city of Natchiotches.
Around 10:45 a.m Sunday, February 21, 2021, Natchitoches Fire District #6 responded to a report of a trailer fire located in the 1900 block of Highway 6.
Firefighters requested the SFMâs assistance with the investigation following the discovery of a body that appeared to have been dead prior to the fire. The body of a pet dog was also located inside of the residence.
At the time, the victim was believed to be a 49-year-old transient woman from Mississippi who had been intermittently staying at the trailer with Ronald Griffith, 58, the homeowner, for the past two years.
After an assessment of the fire scene, deputies determined the fire originated in the trailerâs kitchen area. While the official cause is still undetermined, deputies have not ruled out the possibility of an electrical malfunction due to unattended space heaters being a contributing factor.
