Exclusive: Streaming services raise concerns on IT Rules through IAMAI

The Internet and Mobile Association of India on April 9 prepared a “final” list of concerns that Online Curated Content Platforms like Netflix and Hotstar had on the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics code) Rules, 2021. Streaming services, the largest of whom are members of IAMAI’s Digital Entertainment Committee, have largely been silent on the code. But the list of concerns prepared by the industry association indicates that, some wrinkles aside, they will largely comply. IAMAI couldn’t be reached immediately for comment.

NEW DELHI: The Internet and Mobile Association of India has sought public consultations with the government on guidelines for OTT streaming platforms before they are notified. In a statement on Wednesday, IAMAI said it was “dismayed” to see reports that the government intends to notify guidelines for OTT streaming platforms shortly.
“The industry has been working collectively to formalise transparent and stringent guidelines for selfregulation, but has been completely perturbed by the lack of any consultative process administered with the stakeholders that usually proceeds such guidelines or regulations,” the association representing over 300 digital media platforms said.
