Former IJU President Amarnath dies of Covid

He was under treatment at the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences
K Amarnath, a former National Secretary of Indian Journalists Union (IJU) and President of Andhra Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ), has passed away due to Covid-19 infection.
The 69-year-old journalist breathed his last while taking treatment at the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) here.
He was elected as a member to the Press Council of India and headed its sub-committee that conducted an inquiry into attacks on journalists in various parts of the country. After a nation-wide tour, the committee submitted a report with recommendations to protect the lives and interests of journalists.

Former Director of Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), Dr Kakarla Subba Rao passed away in the wee hours of Friday. About a month back Subba Rao got admitted in Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), Secunderabad with age-related health complications.
According to doctors at KIMS, Subba Rao breathed his last this morning. He was born on 25 January 1925 in Pedamuttevi, a small village in Krishna District of Andhra Pradesh. He pursued MBBS in Andhra Medical College in the year 1950 and later landed in the USA. He served as Professor of Radiology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York and in 1985 he returned to the country inspired by NTR.

Vice President, Telangana CM condoles death. Vice President M Venkiahh Naidu and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao have condoled renowned Radiologist, Kakarla Subba Rao’s demise.
In a statement, Naidu expressed profound grief on the passing away of Rao today. He was 96.
He described Kakarla as an excellent hospital administrator known for his integrity, professionalism, hard work and discipline.
In his message, he said, “I am deeply saddened to learn about the passing away of renowned Radiologist, Dr Kakarla Subba Rao Garu. A Padma Shri recipient, Dr Kakarla, as he was popularly known, contributed richly to the field of medicine. He is widely credited with the development of the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) in Hyderabad into a reputed super specialty hospital when he was its Director.

It was locally known as the ‘Bokkala Dhawakhana’ or the hospital for bones in the 1970’s. By the turn of the century it emerged as one of the top super specialty hospitals in the country. The transition Nizam’s Orthopedic hospital into the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences(NIMS) is an exemplary story.
Playing a significant part in shaping this makeover was Dr Kakarla Subba Rao, a noted Radiologist. He oversaw the change, growth and diversification in the mid 1980s with a tough, no-nonsense and committed attitude. Today, the NIMS is a huge facility with expertise and research capabilities in almost all disciplines of modern healthcare.

Hyderabad: Renowned bone radiologist and founding director of Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) Kakarla Subbarao passed away in the early hours of Friday at Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), Secunderabad due to age-related complicated. He was 96.
He is remembered in creating NIMS from its predecessor Nizam Orthopedics, by implementing a new structure and converting it to into a premier medical institution in the country, at the behest of former chief minister NT Rama Rao.
