The Chief Executive, Mrs Carrie Lam, today (May 20) signed in accordance with Article 48(3) of the Basic Law of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China (the Basic Law) the Public Offices (Candidacy and Taking Up Offices)(Miscellaneous Amendments) Ordinance 2021 (the Ordinance) passed by the Legislative Council (LegCo). HONG KONG, May 20 (Xinhua) A law that requires Hong Kong s public officers to take an oath to uphold the Basic Law and bear allegiance to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) will be published and take effect on Friday.
HKSAR Chief Executive Carrie Lam on Thursday signed the Public Offices (Candidacy and Taking Up Offices)(Miscellaneous Amendments) Ordinance 2021.
The related bill was introduced into the Legislative Council for the first and second reading on March 17 and was passed by lawmakers on May 12.
The ordinance explains the meaning of upholding the Basic Law and bearing allegiance to the HKSAR, introduces the oath-taking requirement for members of the District Councils and specifies oath-taking requirements.

Vietnam in top seeded group of AFC U-23 Asian Cup qualification

Vietnam’s national U23 team is ranked 13th and among five squads in the top seeded group of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U-23 Asian Cup qualifiers.
The AFC recently announced the list of 46 teams divided into two regional groups for a draw of the qualifiers.
The No.1 seeded group in Southeast Asia and East Asia also comprises the reigning champions the Republic of Korea, Australia, Thailand and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.
