Newport News Public Schools partners with BusPatrol to keep students safe

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The City of Newport News is committed to keeping students safe on their way to and from school.
Newport News Public Schools, the Newport News Police Department and the city have launched a school bus safety program in partnership with BusPatrol.
As part of the BusPatrol safety program, all 340 NNPS buses have been outfitted with stop-arm cameras that provide a comprehensive view of vehicles around the school bus. The stop-arm cameras are positioned to capture images of drivers and their vehicles if they pass a school bus when the stop sign and red lights are activated.

(PRWEB) March 09, 2021 An Achievable Dream (AAD) presented the organization’s 2021 Dream Maker Award to former Virginia Beach Mayor, Will Sessoms, during the 2nd Annual A Night to Dream gala, held virtually on Friday, March 5, 2021. This is the second year AAD has presented the Virginia Beach Dream Maker award, which is given to someone who has gone above and beyond the call of duty in support of and service to An Achievable Dream, who believes wholeheartedly in the mission and works tirelessly in the community to support equity in education and provide opportunities and tools for success to AAD students.
The cameras will take pictures when someone drives past a school bus that has its stop sign and lights activated. Violators face a minimum penalty of a $250 fine.
