Making the Case for Humane & Social Entrepreneurship
Beyond the staggering tragedy that is the death and illness of thousands of people the world over, the COVID-19 pandemic has also brought unprecedented economic disorder, decimating economies, and the livelihoods of citizens in rich and poor nations alike. The International Trade Centre projected that, globally, one in every five micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) will go bankrupt in 2020 an alarming number considering that, in Africa, this category of business provides nearly 80 percent of sorely needed youth employment. The pandemic is estimated to push about 40 million people in the region into extreme poverty in 2020. That kind of abrupt uptick in suffering has not been seen in Africa since the 1980s.

What was your first job?
My very first job was in my local newsagents, after school and at weekends - I was paid an impressive £1.50 an hour.
What qualifications do you have?
I have a BSc. honours degree in sport, exercise and leisure studies from Ulster University. I also have a diploma from the Chartered Institute of Marketing.
What do you attribute your success to?
I always say your network is your worth and I have an extensive network that I pride myself on being able to reach out to.
Uganda Marketers Society (UMS) and the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) have signed an MoU for a Strategic Partnership to enhance professional marketing standards and practices in Uganda.
The partnership will see CIM appoint ambassadors and advisory representatives to the UMS organisation, to ensure that marketing professionals in Uganda benefit from:
The adoption of CIM Professional Marketing Competencies to establish best practices.
The opportunity to become chartered marketers by taking up CIM qualifications and CIM Continuous Professional Development (CPD) programmes.
Joint networking activities and shared academic exchange to strengthen the professional marketing community and encourage career development.
CIM ambassadors and representatives will also be responsible for engaging with Universities, building a strong network of CIM Accredited Study Centres, developing CPD programmes and engaging with Ugandan businesses to encourage recruitment of CIM qualified marketers
