HC seeks report on allegation of police torture Updated: Updated: Complainant prays for action against officers of Munambam station Share Article Complainant prays for action against officers of Munambam station A Division Bench of the Kerala High Court directed the State Police Chief to look into a complaint of torture of a person by police for not wearing a mask and inform the court about the veracity of the allegation. The Bench comprising Justice Devan Ramachandran and Justice Dr. Kauser Edappagath issued the directive on a petition filed by T.K. Vaishak of Koyilandi, seeking disciplinary action against police officers of the Munambam police station.

. KV Sohan, State Attorney, pointed out that the government had taken steps to avoid overcrowding by stopping spot registration except for second doses and making online registration mandatory. The State was in the process of administering 2.43 lakh doses of vaccine doses as of now. Besides, 4.75 lakh doses were expected to arrive in one or two days. Another 25 lakh doses of Covaxin and 75 doses of Covishield were ordered for the month of May. He also submitted that Kerala was one of the States where not a single dose of vaccines had been wasted. Hospital charges The court also took up the petition alleging overcharging by the private hospitals for Covid treatment. When the petition came up for hearing, the State Attorney submitted that the government had already initiated action to ensure rationalisation of prices for Covid treatment in private hospitals.

Woman sustains head injuries after jumping off running train The Kerala High Court on Friday initiated a suo motu case in connection with an incident in which a 31-year-old woman passenger was attacked on board a running passenger train by a man in Kochi. The woman who sustained injuries on her head after she jumped off the train is undergoing treatment in a private hospital in Kochi. Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas initiated the suo motu proceeding on the basis of newspaper reports on the incident. In six weeks The court also directed the State Police Chief and Railway authorities to hold meeting and devise a method for ensuring passenger safety. The court also ordered that the outcome of the meeting be submitted to the court in six weeks.

Kerala HC asks govt to regulate Covid treatment costs in private hospitals April 30, 2021 Ill-equipped The private sector has failed to deliver proper public healthcare× A Division Bench of the Kerala High Court on Friday allowed the State government to consult private hospital managements on reducing the Covid-19 treatment cost and inform it on the outcome of the discussion. The Court observed that the government has an “unexpendable” role to “contain profiteering and the chase of lucre” by all stakeholders including private hospitals in the midst of a spike in Covid-19 cases. The Bench comprising Justices Devan Ramachandran and MR Anitha passed the order when a public interest litigation complaining about private hospitals in the State overcharging for Covid treatment came up for hearing.
