Fargo Man Sentenced for Role in Downtown May Riots

(Fargo, ND) One of those who broke into businesses during the Downtown Fargo riots in May of last year has been sentenced for his crimes.  United States Attorney Drew Wrigley announced Monday that U.S. District Court Chief Judge Peter D. Welte sentenced 21-year-old Abdimanan Bana Habib to four months incarceration followed by three years of supervised released for the charge of Civil Disorder. Judge Welte also ordered Habib to pay $2,500 in restitution. On May 30th, 2020, Habib, a Fargo native, participated in riots that erupted in Fargo following George Floyd’s death in Minneapolis. What started as peaceful protests in Fargo turned violent when rioters, including Habib, broke into several Fargo businesses and buildings, including JL Beers, Vinyl Taco, and the Exchange Building.

(Fargo, ND) We now know the fate of the Fargo man who tried to derail a train near Casselton. United States Attorney Drew Wrigley announced Friday that U.S. District Court Chief Judge Peter D. Welte sentenced 19-year-old Skylar Dayne Goodman to four days’ incarceration followed by three years of supervised released for attempting to derail a Burlington Northern Santa Fe train and corruptly attempting to obstruct an official proceeding. Judge Welte also ordered Goodman to pay $3,124 in restitution to BNSF Railway. On May 7th, 2020, a BNSF train was traveling from Brenkenridge, Minnesota to Black Thunder Mine in Wyoming when it approached a crossing one mile west of Casselton at which point it encountered a rough track. Turtle Mountain Indian Reservation Man sentenced to 30 years in Federal Prison for Sexually Abusing Six Children Devils Lake Journal Fargo – United States Attorney Drew Wrigley announced that U.S. District Court Chief Judge Peter D. Welte has sentenced Roger Decoteau, age 65 of Belcourt, ND, to 30 years and 5 months in federal prison for Abusive Sexual Contact. Judge Welte also sentenced Decoteau to lifetime supervision, to register as a sexual offender, and $200 in special assessment fees. In November 2018, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) began investigating Roger Decoteau for the sexual abuse of minors after an eight year old child disclosed that Decoteau had sexually abused the child. The FBI continued its investigation, eventually securing evidence that Decoteau had sexually abused six children. The children were all under the age of 12 when Decoteau abused them, and each of the children viewed Decoteau as a trusted adult and foster parent.
