As spring has now sprung, I found myself wondering where the phrase “hope springs eternal” came from.
As a lifelong learner, “hope” is one of those concepts I have pondered most of my life. Is hope inherent in all of us? Is it what keeps us going?
In my research for this article, I learned that this saying was coined by the poet Alexander Pope in An Essay on Man in 1732: “Hope springs eternal in the human breast.”
It quickly became one of the most referenced expressions in history. There is even a 2018 film called “Hope Springs Eternal.” (The summary of the film did not appeal to me.)
The Great White Way has always been the ultimate go-to spot for epic songs of romance. The Hill Country Community Theatre puts a bouquet of these beauteous Broadway ballads on center stage.
