“Construction of the new Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge is now in its 78.5 percent completion (stage) and once fully completed, it will be able to accommodate around 50,000 vehicles per day,” Villar said.
The bridge will connect Estrella Street in Makati City and Barangka Drive in Mandaluyong City. It is also expected to decongest Guadalupe Bridge along Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue.
Its construction, according to DPWH Undersecretary Emil Sadain, involves the replacement of an old existing steel truss bridge with a pre-stressed concrete rigid frame bridge (with V-shape piers) having a four-lane concrete deck slab of 506.46 lineal meters.
CALOOCAN CITY, Jan. 31 (PIA) Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar pointed out over the weekend that the projects under the Build, Build, Build program of the Duterte administration would continue amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
During a televised report over the weekend, Villar stressed that each infrastructure project contributes a lot to the quick recovery of the economy, in providing jobs, and in the development of rural areas. The Department of Public Works and Highways announced Wednesday that the road widening of the 2.61-kilometer section of the Manila North Road in Sta. Praxedes, Cagayan has been completed.
The improved portion of the road serves as a direct connector road between Cagayan Valley and the Ilocos region.
Under a P65.46-million fund, the previously two-lane road has been improved into a four-lane road.
According to Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar, this will allow for better inter-regional connectivity in the area.
“The road network upgraded by DPWH Cagayan 2nd District Engineering Office now helps in easing traffic congestion in the area while also providing a safer road to motorists traversing from Sta. Praxedes, Cagayan to Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte,” Villar said.

Villar said the Quezon Institute at E. Rodriguez Sr. Avenue, Quezon City has the facility to cater the need for isolation and treatment of patients who are moderate to critical COVID-19 cases.
“Our DPWH Task Force to Facilitate Augmentation of Local and National Healthcare Facilities constructs modular health facilities at Quezon Institute with two units with a total bed capacity of 44 already turned over to the Department of Health (DOH) last December 2020,” he said in a statement.
According to the DPWH, the QI is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and facilities to be operated by medical personnel of Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center.
Villar dropped by the 1.2 kilometer-baywalk area which is a project of congressman Christopher De Venecia.
“I felt like I’m in another country,” said Villar during his visit.
The Baywalk has enough spaces for bike lanes, park benches, plants and ramps that provide enough access to Persons with Disabilities (PWD).
The first phase of the project is meant for pedestrians and cyclists while the next phase will be for other planned attractions. Villar promised to provide needed support for the completion of the project.
De Venecia meanwhile considers the Tondaligan Baywalk, which is also backed by the Department of Tourism, as a crown jewel not only of his district but of the entire province of Pangasinan.
