The Federal Government has so far released a total of N116.72 billion for the much-politicised Second Niger Bridge, a project valued at N414 billion and expected to be delivered next year, The Guardian has learnt.
It was also gathered that the project was awarded as a “lump sum contract” without provision for cost variation. The Head of Corporate Communications, the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA), the project fund manager, Titilope Olubiyi, told The Guardian, yesterday, that the Federal Government would fund part of the cost while the balance would be sourced from the debt market. He added that a management company would be established on completion as the project would be concessioned.

An Infrastructure Engineer and Road Safety expert, Dr Olukayode Ibijola, revealed that no fewer than 28,195 people were killed in road accidents between 2013 and 2019 across the country.
He added that 62 per cent of the road accidents were caused by disobedience to safety rules and road construction designs which misled commuters, resulting in human errors and fatality.
Delivering a paper titled, ‘Road Safety Challenges in Nigeria’ at the Ado-Ekiti branch of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, on Friday, he said most road accidents in the country were not reported.

Adamu gave the advice at investiture ceremony of Mrs Chinwe Igwegbe, the 6th National Chairman of the Nigerian Institution of Water Engineers (NIWE), on Saturday in Abuja. x
The event with the theme: “Reconciling bragging rights with human rights in the Nigerian water sector development” was organised by NIWE, an arm of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE).
According to the minister, who was the Distinguished Guest at the event which also featured a public lecture, there is the need for collaboration between the States and the Federal Government to achieve Sustainable Development Goal, in terms of water supply.
