Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Niger State Council, has embarked on industrial action over the non-implementation of the new minimum wage and better condition of service.
Niger NUT Chairman, Ibrahim Umar, the Principal Assistant Secretary-General, Labaran Garba; President, All Nigeria Conference of Principals of Public Schools (ANCOP) in Niger, Ahmed Jafaar and OPSHON Chairperson, Fatima Kutigi, stated in Minna yesterday that the strike followed the resolution by the State Working Committee of NUT on April 30, 2021.
The resolution was due to the state government’s inability to meet the union’s demands after it suspended the previous strike in February. The union’s demands include the immediate implementation of N30,000 minimum wage for Primary School Teachers, payment of primary school teachers’ October 2020 salaries and refund to all teachers of salary cut for April 2021.

More than 50 houses and other properties worth millions of naira have been destroyed by rainstorm in communities in Qua’an pan Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Residents said the rainstorm, which started Sunday night and lasted till the early hours of Monday, was accompanied by a heavy windstorm that blew off roofs of several houses and rendered many families homeless.
The Chairman of the council, Hon. Abdulmalik Yusuf Haruna, in a statement signed by his Senior Assistant on Media, Mr. Mathias Yengoet Dajan, said that the management and residents of Quaan-Pan Local Government Area are devastated by the level of destruction.

No fewer than 50 houses and properties worth millions of naira were destroyed by a rainstorm in several communities in Qua’Pan Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Tribune Online learnt that the rain which started in the evening of Sunday to the early hour of Monday was accompanied by a heavy windstorm that rendered many families homeless and washed away farmlands.
One of the affected landlords, Mr Stephens Danladi, disclosed that the rain started at about 10:00 pm on Sunday and lasted to the early hours of Monday, destroyed quite a lot of property across the local government adding that houses destroyed by the rainstorm were more than fifty.

The search for the new best teacher in secondary schools in Nigeria has begun as the submission of entries for the 2021 edition of the Maltina Teacher-of-the-Year award competition kicked-off last week in Lagos.
The Corporate Affairs Director, Nigerian Breweries Plc, the organiser and sponsor of the competition, Mrs Sade Morgan, announced the kick-off at a news conference in Lagos, saying the seven-year-old initiative has yielded tremendous impact on teachers, the teaching profession and education sector generally in the country.
According to her, Nigerian Breweries came up with the Maltina Teacher-of-the-Year award on the platform of its social arm, Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund, to identify, showcase and celebrate exemplary teachers in both the public and private secondary schools nationwide and the entries are free of charge.
