Prince Momoh served as Editor of Nigeria’s flagship publication, the Daily Times Group for several years, the first to be appointed to that position through a rigorous competitive process. It was not coincidental that Prince Momoh was fondly called the “Newsroom Headmaster.” As General Manager, Times Publications Department, in Lagos, he mentored a crop of journalists for various media organizations in Nigeria.  With his management colleagues, he also laid emphasis on the training and business development of the Daily Times, one of the few publications quoted at the London Stock Exchange then.

Share The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital Bauchi, Dr Yusuf Bara Jibrin, has said that some patients who visited the hospital for treatment died due to lack of funds for the required treatment. He noted that 50 percent of patients that come to the hospital cannot afford to pay their medical bills. The CMD made the clarification on Tuesday when he led a committee known as the ‘League of Friends of ATBUH’ on a courtesy visit to the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) at Press Center Bauchi. Jibrin said: “You will write drugs for a patient to buy and sometimes they will not buy the drugs until two hours later because of no money. Sometimes, they will have to source for the money by selling their valuables to raise that money, at that time it may have been a little late.

Late Tony Momoh According to family sources, the former Minister died on Monday at his residence in Abuja. Momoh was appointed Minister of Information and Culture by General Ibrahim Babangida, holding the position from September 1986 until 1990. Momoh was Chairman of the African Conference of Information Ministers from 1988 to 1990. He was educated at Government School Auchi, the school Momoh the First had established at Auchi in 1922. He also attended Teacher Training College, Abraka, the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, the University of Lagos, and the Nigerian Law school. He had degrees in Mass Communication and Law and was a solicitor and advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. He worked in various capacities, including professional and administrative, in the Daily Times of Nigeria Group.

The NUJ National President, Mr Chris Isiguzo, made the declaration in a statement signed by the Assistant National Secretary, Mr Midat Joseph, on Saturday in Abuja. x Isiguzo said the National Secretariat of the union received with sadness, the news of sudden death of its chairman in Benue, Asher, who died on Saturday morning at the Federal Medical Centre, Makurdi, from child birth complications.
