Inslee signed off on a dozen bills that he claims will give Washington state the toughest accountability laws for law enforcement. These investigations will be required to be truly independent of the involved law enforcement agency. Releasing such investigations from any hint of conflicts of interest will improve accountability, transparency and the public’s confidence.

United Way of Lake County funds pandemic-related vaccine, food outreach

  Updated 5/1/2021 5:37 PM United Way of Lake County has awarded $115,000 in the eighth round of Lake County COVID-19 Response and Recovery Fund grants to eight local nonprofits. The grants are focused on programs that eliminate barriers to receiving vaccine for homebound adults and/or people of color, or provide access to food for those impacted by the pandemic.   The food program recipients, announced Friday, include A Safe Place, Community Action Partnership of Lake County and West Side Community Center. The vaccine program recipients include Elderwerks, Erie Family Health Center, Family Service of Lake County and Rosalind Franklin University s Community Care Connection.

This grant cycle focused on programs that eliminate barriers to receiving the COVID-19 vaccine for homebound adults and/or people of color, as well as provide access to food for those impacted by the pandemic. The grant recipients for the eighth funding distribution are: Subscribe A Safe Place, to provide food for survivors of domestic violence or human trafficking and their children sheltered through its emergency program. Community Action Partnership of Lake County, to provide hot meals to homeless individuals and families sheltered by PADS during the pandemic.
