Time to expedite work on hydropower projects to address energy crisis

Daily Times July 12, 2021 Amid sizzling temperature of above 40 degree centigrade coupled with long hours, unannounced power outages have started adversely affecting people and industrial production owing to a substantial energy shortfall of about 600 megawatt in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa gripped by severe heat wave since the start of this month. As sun is spewing out severe heat, people in Peshawar’s peripheries, southern districts including Bannu and Dera Ismail Khan besides merged areas were witnessing the brunt of load-shedding for about 10-14 hours daily, especially on high loss feeders forcing consumers to install solar systems, purchase generators and UPS besides water pools to protect their loved ones from the scorching heat.

Three hydropower projects inaugurated in Battagram - Newspaper

BATTAGRAM: Special assistant to the chief minister on power and energy, Taj Mohammad Khan Trand, inaugurated three different mini-hydropower projects having a total generation capacity of 400KV in Shamlai and Bansair areas of the district here the other day. Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organisation CEO Qazi Mohammad Naeem, project director mini-micro hydropower project retired Col Mohammad Shahid Yousafzai, PEDO’s Fawad Dawar, CEO Hydrolink Engineer Fazal Rabi and notables of the area were also present at the inaugural ceremony. The CM’s special assistant inaugurated three mini-micro hydropower projects; one each in Shamlai 250KV, Trangar 100KV and Aien area 50KV. On this occasion, he said that soon they would complete phase-I of the provision of low-cost uninterrupted electricity project to general public. He said that phase-II of the project would also be started in 22 districts of the province soon, which would provide cheap electricity and also end the power loadshed
