Vanguard News Army debunks alleged deployment of only Northern officers to Southeast On Nigerian soldiers The Nigerian Army on Monday dismissed an allegation that it was deploying only commanders of Northern extraction to quell tension in the Southeast. In a statement issued on Monday in Abuja, Director, Army Public Relations, Brig.-Gen. Mohammed Yerima said there was no truth in the allegation. He was reacting to an online publication entitled: “Nigerian Army shuns Southern officers, deploy Northern commanders to quell tension in Southeast.” Gen. Yerima stated that ordinarily, the Nigerian Army would have ignored the illogical narrative by the online medium, but for the good of members of the public, it must respond.

Troops Arrest 13 Suspected Boko Haram Terrorists In Kano

  Thirteen suspected Boko Haram terrorists have been apprehended around Filin Lazio in the Hotoro axis of Kano State, authorities said on Sunday. The suspects were arrested by troops of 3 Brigade of the Nigerian Army during an operation in the north-west region of the country. Brigadier General Mohammed Yerima, who is the Director of Army Public Relations, explained that the operation conducted on Saturday was part of ongoing efforts to flush out all forms of criminality within the area of responsibility. According to him, the ongoing operations are predicated on the need to apprehend criminals who may want to hibernate in any part of Kano.

The arrest of the suspected terrorists is said to have happened when the troops stormed Filin Lazio in Hotoro Area of Kano metropolis on Saturday evening, raiding a mosque and some houses. A source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told The PUNCH that the operation was carried out while the Muslim faithful were breaking their Ramadan fast. “The sudden operation took the residents by surprise and that compelled many of them to flee the area,” the source said.

By Ozioruva Aliu – Benin City Some personnel of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have been reportedly injured in a gun dwell while foiling a jail break in Ubiaja, Esan South East local government area. Vanguard gathered that the gunmen whose identities are yet to be verified invaded the correctional centre to free inmates but they were resisted with support soldiers from 4 Brigade of the Nigerian Army. Confirming the incident,  the spokesman Edo Command of NSCDC, Richard Ogbebor said that the attempted jailbreak occurred from 3pm to 5pm on Wednesday. He said that the command received a distress call and subsequently mobilized its personnel to the facility.

The fake soldier who was identified as twenty-eight-year-old Ogbonnia Paul Chukwudi was said to have been practising the criminal act for four years in Cross River State. The suspect was arrested by officers of the NSCDC at Igoli, Ogoja and handed over to the 130 Battalion who after preliminary investigation handed him over to the 13 Brigade of the Nigerian Army. Speaking at the 13 Brigade Headquarters on Wednesday while handing over the fake soldier to the Police for prosecution, the Brigade Commander, Brigadier General MA Abdullahi said the suspect has been impersonating for the past 4 years.
