Lisa Montgomery: Planned execution is rare case of women put to death

It s been nearly 70 years since the United States executed a woman. Bonnie Brown Heady was put to death in a gas chamber on Dec. 18,1953 after pleading guilty to her role in the kidnapping and murder of Bobby Greenlease, the 6-year-old son of a multi-millionaire auto dealer in Kansas City, Missouri.  Her co-conspirator, Carl Hall, who police say shot the child, was also executed.  Sixty-seven years later, the federal government plans to execute another woman. Lisa Montgomery was convicted of killing pregnant 23-year-old Bobbie Jo Stinnett in a northwest Missouri town in December 2004. Montgomery strangled Stinnett to death, cut open her abdomen with a kitchen knife and removed the fetus, which survived.

The Highway Patrol issued 87 percent more citations for triple-digit speeds in the thirty days following the order. The same insanity followed lockdowns across the country. Overall, traffic fatalities jumped 75 percent per mile driven. Somewhat unbelievably to those who have reacted to Covid with panic, anguish, depression, and anger, three new cross-country records known colloquially as Cannonball Runs have been set in quick succession since March. A team of three drivers holds the current record: twenty-five hours and thirty-nine minutes from Manhattan to LA at an average speed of 110 miles
