Study shows people are better at Irish than they think

Limerick s Live 95 Search By Live95 News Team via Getty Images Irish people are in danger of downplaying their own ability to speak Irish, according to a new study by Mary Immaculate College. The study also suggests that lack of confidence in the language could be linked to an absence of quality feedback in schools. The findings in this research suggest that the Irish population possesses a knowledge of Irish language that is often unacknowledged or dismissed due to negative experiences from our school days.  The Official Languages Act of 2003, which requires public bodies within the Irish state to provide services through both Irish and English, served as the inspiration behind the study.

Two Penn Staters named to state law enforcement advisory commission

The commission’s purpose is to improve policing practices within law enforcement agencies under the governor’s jurisdiction, with a focus on promoting transparency, fairness and accountability. The commission will examine events and conduct reviews of policies, practices and procedures relating to use of force and biased-based policing and make recommendations for implementation of corrective measures.  “Our local community has spent years working alongside law enforcement to put systems in place that are designed to promote fairness and accountability within municipal police departments,” said Young. “Reformation processes such as these are crucial in combating bias and increasing equity for historically disenfranchised communities.
