FAIRMONT Macy Ann Petrowiak and Christopher Ryan Kahler announce their engagement and upcoming marriage. Parents of the couple are Larry and Dawn Petrowiak of Fairmont, and Ryan and Janet Kahler of Sherburn. Macy is a 2018 graduate of South Dakota State University and received a bachelors’ degree in consumer affairs science with minors in agriculture business and marketing. She is employed as a District Field Manager for the Minnesota Corn Growers Association. Chris is a 2019 graduate of Iowa State University with a bachelors’ degree in agriculture business. He co-manages the family-owned farm operation, assists with the family auctioneering business at Land Services Unlimited/Auctioneer Alley and is a Wyffels Hybrids seed representative.

Laura ‘Jean’ Lancour FLAT ROCK, Mich. Laura “Jean” Lancour, age 85, of Flat Rock, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on March 1, 2021, at U.P. Health Systems of Marquette under Hospice care. Jean was born in Escanaba on November 26, 1935, the daughter of Herbert and Laura (Foster) Hoes. They moved around a lot so she is known by Laura in some of the areas but preferred to be called “Jean.” Jean’s family lived in Perkins, Schaffer and Wells. She always talked about how she wasn’t allowed to go to the top of the hill to play, so her brother (Wesley) would go and drag her back down the hill by her long braids.
