LAHORE: An easily spreading coronavirus variant first identified in England last year has now become the dominant strain in Lahore, a study conducted at the University of Health Sciences (UHS) revealed on Monday. The prevalence of variants of concern is increasing and it is now clear that the UK variant, known as B.1.1.7, has taken hold across the metropolis , said the UHS Immunology department s associate professor, Dr Shah Jehan who is the principal investigator of the research. Based on our most recent study, the B.1.1.7 variant is now the most common lineage circulating in Lahore, Dr Shah Jehan said adding that out of total 100 samples, 89 had UK/Kent variant while only 2 had B.1.351, that is, the South African strain of COVID-19 virus.

LAHORE: A newly formed Board of Governors has taken over the administrative and financial control of Punjab’s largest state-run teaching institute, Mayo Hospital, after electing unopposed its first chairman as provided under the Punjab Medical Teaching Institutions (MTI) (Reforms)Act 2020.
The former vice chancellor of the University of Health Sciences and known paediatric surgeon, Prof Dr Mahmood Shaukat, was elected the chairman during the first meeting of the seven-member board held recently.
Under the MTI Act, the board will runall financial, administrative and other affairs of the 2,800-bed Mayo Hospital and the recently restored 150-year-old King Edward Medical College.

The Greater Los Angeles County Vector Control District recently released a catchy, informative, musical video called Tip Toss Boss.
âTip Toss Boss is fun, itâs upbeat but then, also, itâs applicable,â said Mary-Joy Coburn, director of community affairs for GLACVCD.
Coburn said âTip Toss Boss is the second music video and itâs about the shared responsibility about vector control giving the resident the power to eliminate mosquitoes on their property.â

Islamabad: Senior Superintendent of Police (Operations) Islamabad Dr. Syed Mustafa Tanveer has said that Islamabad police is trying its best to secure the capital and to ensure the safety of its citizens, a police spokesman said.
During the last 24 hours, he said that 19 criminals including 11 alm-seekers were arrested during crackdown against outlaws and professional alm-seekers. According to details, Ramana police arrested a bike lifter namely Umer Ejaz and recovered a stolen motorbike from him. Aabpara police arrested accused Awais Masih and recovered 10 wine bottles.
Shams colony police arrested accused Ehsan Tariq and recovered one 30 bore pistol along with ammunition from him. Koral police arrested accused Zaheer Ahmed and recovered one 30 bore pistol from him.
