GE Healthcare has teamed up with an Istanbul-based opinion leader in healthcare digitalisation to accelerate artificial intelligence (AI) development in software development in Turkey.
Hakki Muammer Karakas, who is the Coordinator for the Istanbul Provincial Health Directorate Radiology Services, as well as faculty member of the University of Health Sciences, will reportedly lead the research under the newly established company, CUREA. Using GE Healthcare’s Edison Health Services, Karakas and his wider research and development (R&D) team will in the first instance collaborate to develop AI-based applications focused on two areas: the “detection, categorisation and severity grading of COVID-19 to diagnose and treat patients,” and the “automatic detection and classification of breast lesions through contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (CESM).”

With COVID-19 in Connecticut averaging 1,138 new cases per day, as of the past weekend, the members of the New Canaan Men’s Club will get an update on developments in the progress being made to combat the new virus’ and disease’s spread from Dr. Pietro Marghella, a public health expert, who previously spoke to the members of the club in July 2020. The members of the Men’s Club will hear Marghella’s remarks during its virtual meeting on Zoom Feb. 19, beginning at 10 a.m.
MBBS, BDS classes to start from 22nd

LAHORE: First-year MBBS and BDS classes in government medical and dental colleges of Punjab will start from February 22 while in Azad Jammu and Kashmir from March 1.
The decision was taken at a meeting of vice-chancellors and principals of public sector medical and dental institutions held here at the University of Health Sciences (UHS), on Monday. The meeting was chaired by UHS Vice-Chancellor Professor Javed Akram.
It was also decided that traditional white coat ceremonies would be held in all medical and dental colleges. The meeting also decided that no poor student would be denied admission just because of non-payment of fees. The University of Health Sciences will pay the fees of such students on the recommendation of the college principal.
